Wagner November 10, 1917 - July 25, 2004 ---------------- Walter C. Wagner, 86, of Stockton died on July 25, 2004. Walter C. Wagner, known to family and friends as Mike, was born in Connecticut. He graduated from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1941 and was drafted for military service. He served in the U.S. Army until 1946. His first overseas assignment was to Cheltenham, England, to participate in the initial plans for supply operations for the proposed invasion of Europe. He then moved to London where, as a member of Supreme Headquarters Allied Forces in Europe (SHAFE), he served as Chief for Non-perishable Subsistence, first for D-Day and, later, for the ongoing supply of troops serving on the continent. Returning to civilian life, he completed a PhD in Economics at The University of Texas, Austin and began a long teaching career that included Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa and The University of Missouri, Kansas City. In 1962 he joined the faculty of The University of the Pacific, where he taught first at Raymond College as one of the original faculty. He later joined The College of the Pacific as Professor of Economics, where he served until his retirement. He was named Alexander Herron Professor of Economics in 1980, received the Faye and Alex G. Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award in 1983, and The Order of the Pacific in 1986. His career also included public lecturing to corporation and union groups and the publication of professional articles. Mike is survived by his wife, sister and brother.
