Mitchell October 21, 1911 - July 26, 2004 William A. Mitchell, 92, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004 in Stockton, CA. William was born October 21, 1911 in Raymond, Minnesota. William was a research chemist at General Foods having over 70 patents. He was best known for his invention of Pop Rocks. He spent most of his youth in Lamar Colorado where he trapped muskrats and worked in the melon and sugar beet industries. He was educated at Cotner College, Nebraska Wesleyan and the University of Nebraska where he received an honorary Doctorate in 1981. William Mitchell and Ruth Cobbrey married in 1938. They lived in Rochester, NY, Cedar Grove, NJ, Lincoln Park, NJ, and since 1984 in Shelburne, VT. Ruth died in 1999. They are survived by seven children, eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren who remember him as a devoted, stimulating, and loving parent. A Memorial Service will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. Family services were held in Shelburne, VT on Sunday August 1, 2004. Committal at Shelburne Villiage Cemetery on Monday, August 2, 2004. Memorial to: Senior First, P.O.
