He was born on June 23, 1912 to George and Julia Ladd in Lead City, South Dakota. George moved to Stockton during WWII and began working as a Foreman at Pollocks Shipyard. On June 24, 1939, George married Claradean at the Century Methodist Church in Modesto, CA. In 1945 he began the business "Ladd's Built Boats" in Stockton. He then began "Ladd's Stockton Marina" in 1947 at Buckley Cove. In 1961, George initiated the building and rental of houseboats on the Delta. Ladd's Stockton Marina was sold in 1977, after 31 years in business. In retirement, George pursued his interest in art, both painting and sculpturing. He also remained active in many community activities. George was a member of the Stockton and Lodi Art League, Stockton Arts Council, former member of the Stockton Yacht Club and CA Yacht Broker Commission under Gov. Edmund Brown's administration. George was also involved with the development of Pixie Woods. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Claradean Ladd in November of 2002. Survived by sons, William P. Ladd of Lodi, CA, Robert A. Ladd of Stockton, CA and Thomas W. Ladd of Bakersfield, CA; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter and brother Elmer Ladd of Los Angeles, CA. Friends are invited for a Graveside Service on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy. 99 & Harney Lane, Lodi, CA at 11:00 a.m. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, Lodi, in care of arrangements.
