God in his merci ful wisdom knew the time had come for her to go home. She was born on Oct. 4, 1911, in the small town of Pojoaque, New Mexico, the daughter of Celsa and Lino Garcia. She married Phil Herrera of Nambe, NM on Nov. 14, 1932, and enjoyed 62 yrs. of marriage. She spent the remaining years of her life in Sacramento to be closer to her daughters. She was a resident at the Walnut House in Carmichael for the last 9 yrs. In addition to raising four children, Amalia was employed at the Stockton Box Factory for over 30 yrs. Upon retirement, she devoted herself to her favorite pastimes and in spending time with her 10 grandchildren. She found enjoyment serving as Treasurer of the Stockton downtown Senior Citizen Center, playing bingo and taking trips to Tahoe and Reno. Twice she traveled to Maui to see her grandson, Chris, and she regularly phoned and visited her many nieces and nephews in NM and Southern CA. She is remembered for her gift of quilting and for baking and cooking with her grandchildren. While at the Walnut House, she was a member of the Nutty Rhythm Band, the tambourine being her instrument of choice. As her eyesight dimmed, listening to music and Kings games became a comfort and joy. Preceded in death by her husband Phil in '95 and her grandson Steven in '89. Gone from out touch but not our hearts, Amalia's legacy remains her four children, Rose Buford (Chad), James Herrera (Ovalene), Florence Yee (Kingston), Michael Herrera (Karen); ten grandchildren Cathy Felkin (Dick); Bonnie Flory (Leonard), Chris Speere (Becky), Greg Herrera (Thomas), Patti Osborn, Ardena Larsen, Jeanette Shinsky (Stephen), Michael Herrera Jr. (Diane), Daniel Herrera, Kim Sandry (Scott); 16 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Christina, Wendy, Robert, Nathan, Kevin, Michelle, Kali, Tori, Kyle, Spencer, Sidney, Audrey, Samuel, David, and Renee; great-great-grandchildren, Mason, and Kyle; two sister-in-laws, Onofre Garcia and Lena McQuithy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
