Cain Sept. 26, 1914 - Aug. 9, 2004 Millard R. Cain was born September 26, 1914 in Newman Grove, Nebraska, the youngest of five children. He came to Stockton in 1938 and went into the service station business on Pacific Avenue. He and friend Joe Plecarpo came up with the name "Miracle Mile" for the street and the name "stuck". After 20 years in the garage and service station business he went to work for PDM Steel Co. as a diesel and auto mechanic for another 24 years. Millard was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He had 60 different bodies of water in the U.S., Mexico and Canada on his life list of fishing spots. On many of his fishing trips he was accompanied by his wife Maye. He was a life member of the Amblers Club and was a member of the bowling team. In 1966, he won the Stockton Men's Singles Tournament with a 752 series. He enjoyed baseball and football as a spectator and had 17 "I Beat the Experts at the Stockton Record" buttons hanging on the wall in his office. With his wife Maye, he helped form the Hub City Sams Trailer and R.V. Club and served as treasurer for five of the 25 years they belonged. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Maye and his brother, Harlan Cain of Arizona. He is survived by his son, Bob Cain and daughter-in-law, Lu of Tracy; daughter Cecile Brown and son-in-law Orrin of Gardner ville, Nevada; grandchildren, Tracy Brown, Lisa Barrett (Shane), Sheri Hoerth (Duaine), Loree Stroup (Mark), Brian Cain and great-grandchildren Chelsea, Ashlea, Kaylea and Aubrea Barrett, Chelsye and Allison Hoerth and Kaitlin and Damon Stroup. He is also survived by his three sisters Frances Williams of Castro Valley, Carol Knecht of Red Bluff and Elizabeth McCardle of Poulsbo, Washington.
