Kenneth Shrable, a long-time California State University, Stanislaus, professor and first dean of the university's Stockton Center, has died. Shrable died Aug. 11 in Vancouver, Wash., after a lengthy illness. He was 74. Shrable was a psychology professor at Cal State Stanislaus from 1970 until his retirement in 1991. He served as dean of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences for his first two years at the Turlock campus. From 1978 to 1987, he was dean of CSU Stanislaus-Stockton Center when classes were held at San Joaquin County Delta College, said Don Hansen, a university spokesman. A native of Vidette, Ark., Shrable earned his doctorate and his master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Harding College and a master's in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. ::: Advertisement ::: About five years ago, Shrable and his wife, Linda, bought a pine-covered estate on 5 acres in Vancouver, where the couple lived, Linda Shrable said. Kenneth Shrable enjoyed working on the property, she said. He was an active member of the Church of Christ. Two years ago, he gave the commencement speech at Cascade College, a Christian college in Portland, Ore. He also enjoyed working on computers and collecting books for his personal library, Linda Shrable said. Kenneth Shrable had recovered from a second heart-bypass surgery last year and seemed to be healthy until a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Linda Shrable said. "It was a good five years," she said. "I'm sorry it was cut short." Modesto resident W. Mack Goldsmith, a professor emeritus of psychology at Cal State Stanislaus and a longtime friend of Kenneth Shrable's, remembered his former colleague as a person engaged in his work. "He was a person of high integrity who liked ideas," Goldsmith said. Funeral services were held Monday in Washington. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ca/sanjoaquin/obits/ob884shrable.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/caobfiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
