She was born on July 31, 1917, in Brady, Nebraska to Harry and Matilda (Osterberg) Younghans. Helen attended schools in North Platte and Kearny State Teachers College in Nebraska. After teaching in a country one-room school house in North Platte, she married Ralph Lawrence Carver and they moved to California in 1940. Her primary residence was in Modesto until her move to Stockton in 1998. As a homemaker in Modesto, Helen was the first PTA President of Orville Wright Elementary School, a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, a member of the Stanislaus Genealogical Society, and an active 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Modesto. Helen is survived by her children: Gwen Jenkins of Linden, Joanne Dansby of Surrey, Canada, James Carver of Brownsburg, IN; 9 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; also sisters: Renee Howser of North Platte, NE and Mary Ann Diebert of Loveland, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph of 45 years; grandson, Robert Dansby; siblings: Bernice Mapes, Dorothy Groff, Leonard and Robert Younghans. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home in Hughson, CA.
