Scatena Dec. 29, 1921 - Aug. 23, 2004 Nat Scatena, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 23, 2004 in a Sacramento hospital. Born in Courtland, California on December 29, 1921, he was the only son of Guido and Nicola Scatena. After graduating as Valedictorian at Wheatland High School, his college education was interrupted by World War II. He served 4 years active duty as a pilot and 18 years in the Reserves and retired from the United States Air Force as a Major in 1978. Nat married the love of his life, Delia Mariani on September 9, 1945 and their love and devotion to one another for over 58 years was obvious to all they met. After returning to California from active duty, Nat became involved in the family agricultural operation, farming over 5,000 acres throughout San Joaquin County. He pioneered the use of mechanical harvesters and assisted other growers in using this equipment. He also provided supplemental labor for over 400 growers throughout the central valley. Nat instilled his outstanding work ethic in his two sons, Ron and Robert as the farming operation grew. After many years of working as a team, Nat and Delia retired in 1983. In that same year, he joined the Lions Club and served in many positions including President and District Governor. As a current member of the Stockton Host Lions Club, he met wonderful and caring life-long friends. A tireless supporter of Lions Club everywhere, he was particularly interested in and supported the Lion's Student Speakers Contest. He was also a member of SIRS Branch 66 and various agricultural organizations, including his induction into the San Joaquin County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1988. While volunteering, hobbies, friends and traveling occupied much of his time, his family was paramount. Nat was exceptionally proud of his sons, Ron and Robert, his daughters-in-law, Cheryl and Marcy, and his 6 grandchildren, Ashley of Santa Barbara, Robyn of Sacramento, Robert of Santa Clara, and Mick, Roxanne and Ryan of Stockton. His love and devotion for his entire family was immense. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 3847 N.
