Andro Sept. 1, 1923 - August 12, 2004 Betty Andro, 80, homemaker extraordinaire and Modesto resident, died peacefully on August 12, 2004, after a long illness. Beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, she was born in Springfield, Utah on September 1, 1923. Betty moved to Manteca with her family in the 1930's. Betty attended Manteca elementary and high schools, graduating from Manteca High School in 1941. She lived in Manteca until the death of her husband, James Andro in 1977, and then moved to Modesto, California, where she lived continuously until her death. Betty was creative in her garden and home and enjoyed being surrounded by her extended family, which included her neighbors, the neighborhood children, and other community members she befriended. She always was concerned about the welfare of others and actively participated in the political process. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Bonnie Connors; her siblings, Thomas Connors, Virginia Powers, Barbara (Mickey) Martin, Patrick Connors, and her dear husband, James Andro. She is survived by her beloved longtime companion and friend, Gordon Durham as well as her daughters, Barbara Avila of Modesto and Julie Van Nostern of San Francisco; grandchildren, Bonnie Andro-Avila, Kali Avila, Luke Avila, and Connor Jake Avila and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. Throughout her final months and years, she remained fun loving and cheerful, sharing much laughter and reinforcing bonds of love with her family and excellent caregivers, including her various grandchildren and nieces, and particularly Kali Avila, Maureen and Tara Cosgrove and DaNelle Ruth. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church (chapel) at 850 16th Street, Modesto, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to honor Betty's life may be given to Community Hospice Inc., 601 McHenry Avenue, Modesto, California 95350.
