She died Oct. 24, 2005 in Sebastopol. A native of Buhl, Idaho, she grew up on the family farm and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1929. In 1930, Ms. Parish began her teaching career in Hanson, Idaho. She taught in Montpelier, Idaho, and Lindsay, in Tulare County, before coming to Tracy in 1941. She taught English for 16 years at Tracy High, where she was known for making certain her students became well-grounded in English grammar. Over the years, she maintained ties with a number of her former Tracy High students. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1957 and began teaching at Montgomery High School, where she taught English until she retired in 1975, ending a 45-year career in education. Ms. Parish moved from Santa Rosa to Sebastopol in 1965, where she owned a small ranchette. She had four horses, a dozen head of cattle, two cats and a dog. Since she was a girl growing up in rural Idaho, Ms. Parish had loved horses and riding. While in Tracy, she could often be seen riding through the countryside on her Arabian horse. She continued riding in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. In recent years, while in her 90s, she rode dressage three days a week and drove her mare two or three days a week. In addition to her love of animals, Ms. Parish enjoyed traveling throughout the world. An avid photographer, she established a darkroom in her home to develop film and print photos. When not riding or driving horses in her buggy, she tooled around the Sebastopol and Santa Rosa areas in her Jaguar XKE. She went on a balloon ride to celebrate her 92nd birthday. Survivors include her partner, Christopher Woolley of Sebastopol; several nieces and nephews; and a number of friends. The Nov. 12 services will begin at 1 p.m. at Compass Rose Gardens, on astshore and Bay Flat roads, in Bodega Bay, a landscaped outdoor facility operated by two of Ms. Parish’s former Tracy High students, Junior and Donna Freeman.
