Born in Wallula, Wash., Mrs. Pecka was proud that she was the third generation of her family to be born there. After high school, she married Glenn Pecka in 1940. She and her husband moved to Yakima Valley where they farmed until the late 1940s. She worked at a grocery store until she and her husband moved to Burbank, Wash., and her husband went to work for the government in 1951 in the Tri-City Area. During this time, she was a homemaker and raised three children. After the Korean War, the government closed the base in Pasco, Wash., and her husband was transferred to Tracy in 1955. Once in Tracy, she worked for H.J. Heinz Co., Woolworth’s variety store and Turner Hardware until her retirement in 1984. She decided to do volunteer work after the death of her husband in 1992. She volunteered at the Helping Hands store on Central Avenue, and also helped with Tracy Interfaith Ministries. She also played a major role in founding Tracy’s first Alcoholics Anonymous group. She loved to read and travel. She liked a good card game and taking trips to casinos. She found the most joy in her volunteer work and attending the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pecka is survived by her children, Corine Goodson-Herrera, and her husband, Felipe, Earl Pecka, and his wife, Judy, Gary Pecka, and his wife, Denise, all of Tracy; grandchildren, Debra Goodson-De Aguero, Robert Goodson, Kimberly Pecka, Julie Pecka-Hoffman, Richard Martin, all of Tracy, Michael Pecka of Manteca and Timothy Pecka of Monterey; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
