Melva J. Reed

Melva J. Reed, 65, passed away on September 22, 2005, at Dameron Hospital of 
cancer. She was born Melva J. McDonel, on February 1, 1940 in Loop, Texas, to 
Pauline and Archie McDonel. 

She moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1943 where she resided until 1962  when she 
moved to Sacramento, CA. 

Upon her marriage to Velmar Reed in 1981, she moved to Lodi where she spent the 
rest of her life. She continued her education and was awarded a Bachelor of 
Science in Nursing in 1987. She retired as a Nursing Administrator in 1995 from 
Kaiser Permanente. She would spend six months at Outdoor Resorts in Palm 
Springs where she was a member of the computer club and enjoyed golfing. 

She is survived by her husband, Velmar Reed; son, Britt Sawyer; daughter, Lori 
Davis; brothers, Bud McDonel and Jerry McDonel; sisters, Deloyce Simmons and 
Norma Radcliff; grandchildren, Brittnery Sawyer and Aimee Goodwin; many loving 
nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by parents, Pauline and Archie McDonel; sister, Pat 
Jackson; daughter, Susan Reed. 

Memorial services are private.

In lieu of flowerd, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
