He was born on March 4, 1922 in Burbank, CA, reared and educated in San Fernando, CA. In 1940 he joined the Nave, trained in San Diego, and was on the USS Whitney in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He started as an enlisted man, working his way up to Chief Machinist Mate, he served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on April 8, 1946. On February 6, 1944, he married his beloved wife, Norma Faber in San Francisco. Following his Navy career, he was employed as a civil service Machiniat at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco and later for Harbold Gear Works in Belmont. He retired after 48 years as a machinist. Richard and Norma resided in San Francisco following World War II, in Belmont, CA from 1946-1962, San Carlos, Ca from 1962-1984, Keizer, Oregon from 1984-2000, and then moved to Lodi, CA. He was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Inc., San Carlos Masonic Lodge No. 690 where he was a Past Master now known as Peninsula Lodge No 168, John Knox Presbyteian Church in Keizer, OR, Salem Elks Lodge, Salem Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, and Salem Fraternal order of Eagles Lodge. Richard was known by many in his family and friends as "Roby" and "Dick". He enjoyed boating, water-skiing, gardening, fishing. He was a founding member of the Carlmont Methodist Church in Belmont, CA., and was a member of the John Knox Presbyterian Church in Keizer, OR. He was also an instructor in Tai Chi in Salem, Oregon at the Community College, and at Senior's Choice. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Robinson of Lodi; daughter, Diana Robinson Janson and son-in-law Skip of Lodi; son, Richard Robinson and daughter- in-law Cleona of Keizer, OR.; son, Michael Robinson and daughter-in-law Anela of Honolulu, HI.; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A private family memorial service was held in Lodi. Then during the Thanksgiving Holiday to celebrate and give thanks for his wonderful life, as a Pearl Harbor Survivor the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will render full military honors as his ashes are placed in Pearl Harbor, in Honolulu, Hawaii with his family present.
