Charlene L. Samples

Feb. 15, 1937 — Jan. 12, 2006

A memorial service will be Sunday for Charlene LaRae (Higby) Samples, 68, who 
died Jan. 12, 2006 at Emmanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Samples grew up and attended schools in Livermore 
and lived in Woodland for 35 years, where she worked more than 20 years as a 
nurse at Woodland Memorial Hospital. She later moved to Tracy to be near her 
family and then retired in Patterson. She enjoyed camping, playing pool and 
watching Lifetime television. She loved talking to her daughters on the phone 
daily and looked forward to her weekly hair appointment. She also enjoyed 
shopping, eating and visiting with friends and family. She will be remembered 
for her contagious laugh and her fun-loving personality.

Mrs. Samples is survived by four children, Donald Samples Jr. of Idaho Falls, 
Idaho, Dennis Samples, and his wife, Patty, of Severy, Kan., Cheryl Jacobson 
and her husband, Jake, of Patterson, Carene Brandrup and her husband, Monte, 
of Manteca; a brother, Lloyd Higby, and his wife, Jean, of Manteca; 11 
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Donald Samples Sr.

Sunday’s open-house memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. at the home of 
Carene and Monte Brandrup in Manteca. For information: P.L. Fry & Son Funeral 
Home in Manteca, 239-1242. Interment will be in Monument Hill Memorial Park, 
in Woodland.

Contributions in Mrs. Samples’ name may be sent to a charity of the donor’s 
choice.
