Mr. Shipman was born in Turlock, the son of Virgil and Stella Shipman. He served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. After the service and before retiring, Shipman worked for Kaiser Cement Corp. as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and volunteered on the restoration of the historic locomotive for the Copperbelt Railway at the Railroad museum. Mr. Shipman is survived by his children, Ronald Shipman, and his wife Kristie, of Stockton, Donnice Walter, and her husband, Fred, of Modesto, Tony Shipman, and his wife, Vicki, of Cottonwood, Donald Shipman of Saratoga, Eric Shipman of Reno, Nev., Ed Shipman, and his wife, Kate, of Santa Fe, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Alice Shipman. Monday’s Mass will begin at 2 p.m. at St. Therese Church of the Little Flower, 875 E. Plumb Lane, in Reno. Visitation will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208, Yerrington, Nev., 89447, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.
