Irene I. Smith

June 8, 1920 — Jan. 28, 2006

Graveside services will be Thursday for former Tracy resident Irene I. Smith, 
85, who died Saturday at a Stockton hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Calumet, Mich., and was a Tracy resident from 1951 to 
1971. She earned her master’s in education. She was a registered nurse at San 
Joaquin General Hospital 28 years and was a U.S. Army veteran with the 107 
EVAC. 1st Lt. Irene I. Smith served at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters, Maryann Dees of Tracy and Lisa Rae 
Neal of Stockton; son, Greg Smith; grandchildren, Ashley and Mariah Smith, Jim 
Hayes, Michelle Morris, Stacy Locke and Peter Neal Jr.; and great-
grandchildren, Lauren Von Behren, Savannah Ortega and Kendra Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Harris L. Smith; sister, 
Ingrid Ylisto; and her brother, Joseph Pylvinen.

Thursday’s graveside service will begin at 9 a.m. at Lodi Memorial Park & 
Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine St., in Lodi.

Rocha’s Mortuary, 215 S. School St., in Lodi, is handling arrangements.
