William Smith
William Fern Smith, 93, of Galt, died Sept. 24 in a local hospital. He was born 
June 25, 1912, in Texas.

Mr. Smith was a resident of the area since 1935. He was employed as a dairyman 
and mechanic in Elk Grove and Sacramento. He was an original member of the 
Herald Riders. He enjoyed playing his harmonica, hunting, fishing, 
rockhounding, gardening and spending time outdoors. 

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Smith, of Galt; daughter, Linda Hefner, of 
Galt; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina in 1991; and son, Gary in 1951.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ben Salas Funeral Home. 
There will be no visitation.

Ben Salas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
