Smith, 82, of Lodi, died Oct. 25. He was born April 8, 1923, in Lodi. Mr. Smith farmed on the family vineyards until he graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. in the Pacific during World War II. He then returned to Lodi to farm until 1958, when he went to work as a boat patrolman for Lake Pardee. George Smith He lived in Mokelumne Hill before relocating to South Lake Tahoe in 1961, where he managed the El Dorado Camp Grounds for eight years. He then worked in maintenance for the California Highway Patrol for three years prior to his employment as a sporting goods salesman at Outdoorsman. He moved to Stockton six years later, where he was employed by Knowles Sporting Goods for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian; daughters, Gay Conway, of Stockton, Terry Quosig, of Woodbridge; son, Roger Smith, of Plymouth; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Horace, Henry and Maurice; and sisters, Gertrude Schmidt and Maurine Ansted. A private military service with honors will be held at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
