Adelia Souza 

Feb. 22, 1916 — March 9, 2006

A Christian Mass will be Friday for Adelia Souza, 90, of Cottonwood, who died 
Thursday at her home. 

Born in Los Banos, Ms. Souza was raised in Spanish Springs, Nev., where she 
worked on her parents’ dairy.

In the mid-1930s, her family moved the dairy to Tracy. During World War II, 
she worked at the Tracy Depot. She retired to Santa Cruz in the late 1950s and 
moved to Cottonwood in 1999 to be closer to her family. 

She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Mary Hutchins, and visited many places 
throughout the United States. 

She loved off-road motorcycle races.

Ms. Souza is survived by her sister, Mary Hutchins of Cottonwood; brother, 
Richard Souza of Tracy; and many nephews, nieces, friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Souza and Maria Azevedo-
Souza; brothers, Tony and Bill Souza; and sister, Alice Shipman. 

Friday’s Christian Mass and funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. 
Patrick’s Catholic Church, 700 Main St., in Watsonville. 

Interment will follow the service in the Catholic Cemetery, 66 Marin St., in 
Watsonville. Allen Dahl Funeral Chapel, 2030 Howard St., in Anderson, is 
handling arrangements.
