Born in Tulsa, Okla., Mr. Steiger served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1952. He worked at various trades, including owing an electrical business in Dublin, being a police officer in Willits, and instructing scuba diving classes. His most enjoyable job was driving trucks. Mr. Steiger was an animal lover who adored his cat, Cougar, and his adopted donkey, Michelle. He also enjoyed visiting with people while going out for breakfast every morning at various Tracy restaurants. He enjoyed motorcycles, gold dredging and airplanes. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Motorcyclist Association. Mr. Steiger always had a story to tell and family and friends will never forget his funny and unique clichés for just about every situation. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Mr. Steiger is survived by his children, Laurie Jahoda, and her husband, Randy, of Tracy; Andrew Steiger of Livermore and Susan Caldwell, and her fiancée, Gary Mandella, of Livermore; grandchildren, David Jahoda, and his wife, Niki, of North Carolina, Amber Jahoda of Tracy, and Kenneth and Kari Caldwell, both of Livermore; and his former wife, Jeri Steiger of Pleasanton. Services will be private and sea scattering will be conducted at a later date. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements.
