He was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Torrington, Alberta, Canada, and moved to Lodi with his family in 1941. Mr. Suess married Grace Edna Gallagher on Nov. 21, 1941, in Lodi. She died in 1997. He then married Hazel Holloway on Dec. 5, 1998. Mr. Suess was a janitor at Lodi High School and worked with Lodi Home Bakery before serving in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1945. He was wounded in the Army and awarded a Purple Heart. After his discharge, Mr. Suess managed Western Auto Sales in Lodi for 33 years and in Galt for four years. After his retirement in 1975, he owned and operated Bill’s Bicycle Shop in Lodi for 11 years. He attended Temple Baptist Church in Lodi and was a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America. He was an accomplished musician and enyoyed electronics, video-photography and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Suess of Lodi; two sons, the Rev. Ronald E. Suess of Santa Rosa and Douglas W. Suess of Modesto; a daughter, Bonnie Teixeira of Stockton; a stepson, David Holloway of Idaho; two stepdaughters, Sharon Siebel of Lodi and Carolee Wilkinson of Dunagan; five brothers, LeRoy, Ivan, Virgil and Kelly of Lodi and Reuben Suess of Idaho; a sister, Ramona Ottman of Washington; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Chapel services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lodi Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald E. Suess and the Rev. Perry Kallis officiating. Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday at Lodi Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi, CA 95242.
