Speir, 82, of Lodi, died on July 2 in a local hospital following a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Sandsprings, Okla. He moved to Woodlake at a young age, and in 1943, he joined the U.S. Army-Air Force. He served with Squadron B 464th AAF Base Unit and was discharged in 1945 as a sergeant. Roger Speir Mr. Speir married Dorothy Washburn in 1949 after returning to Woodlake. They moved to Oregon for three years, then to San Bernardino before moving to Lodi in 1980. He worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years and retired in 1993. He enjoyed flying planes, hunting, fishing, building "airplane weathervanes" and helping friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Speir, of Lodi; children, Sharen Williams, of Vale, Ore., and Stan Speir, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Thelma Diamond, of Cottonwood, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Speir. There will be no services or visitation. Inurnment will be private.
