Virginia Upwall
Virginia V. Upwall, 86, of Lodi, died Oct. 7 on a local care home. She was born 
Virginia V. Valverde on June 10, 1919, in Sonora.

Mrs. Upwall worked at Sanford's Dress Shop in Sonora and was a Bee-line Fashion 
representative. She later worked at the Tuolumne County Auditor's office as a 
deputy clerk for 23 years until her retirement. 

She was a member of the Amaranth, Delta Queen Court in Lodi, Order of the 
Eastern Star Lodi Chapter No. 150 and the Tuolumne Chapter, and VFW Ladies 
Auxiliary in Sonora. She served as supreme officer of the Emblem Club of Sonora 
and was a former president of the Soroptimist International of Sonora and the 
Sonora Business and Professional Women.

She also served as a leader for numerous clubs and organizations in Sonora.

She enjoyed holiday gatherings with her family and spending time with her 
children. She enjoyed making candy and also enjoyed fashion, especially shoes.

She is survived by her son, Leonard "Sonny" Upwall, of Sonora; daughter, Donna 
Lewis-Roys, of Lodi; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Mickey Upwall; second 
husband, Herbert Larson; sister, Myrtle Wilson; and brothers Harold and Herman 
Valverde.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Melodies at the Sonora 
Inn, 160 S. Washington St., Sonora. A private graveside service will be held 
Saturday at the Masonic Cemetery in Sonora. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of San 
Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204; to the Shriner's Hospital for 
Crippled Children, Northern California Unit, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 
CA 95817; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
