He was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Brownfield, Maine. Mr. Wakefield moved to Lodi as a teenager with his family, where he resided for 87 years. He worked in maintenance at Liberty Winery in Youngstown. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lodi, and also the Jefferson Odd Fellows Lodge in Woodbridge and SIRS in Lodi. He enjoyed building birdhouses that have been placed in many gardens in the area and also enjoyed being a handyman. He is survived by his son, Don Wakefield, of Palm Springs; daughter, Jeanette Gordon, of Carmichael; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Maxine Wagers Wakefield; and sisters, Gladys Knapp and Violet Frey. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Oak St., Lodi, with Pastor Alan Kimber officiating. Inurnment will be private at Glenview Cemetery in Clements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Oak St., Lodi, CA 95240.
