Wasmer April 9, 1909 — Feb. 11, 2006 Graveside services will be Friday afternoon for Maurine B. Wasmer, 96, a Tracy resident for 65 years who had been a familiar face to shoppers at the Tracy J.C. Penney Co. store for three decades. She died Saturday at Tracy Convalescent Hospital after a long illness. A native of Bridgewater, S.D., Mrs. Wasmer and her late husband, Jerry, came to Tracy in 1940. Mr. Wasmer, who died in 1976, was a butcher in local meat markets. Mrs. Wasmer went to work for J.C. Penney Co. in 1943 and worked as a salesclerk at the store in downtown Tracy before retiring in 1973. “She loved meeting her customers who became her friends,” her daughter, Mary Karen Albano, said. “She made lifelong friends of customers and fellow workers.” Mrs. Wasmer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge as a member of her bridge club for more than a half-century and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Mrs. Wasmer is survived by her daughter, Mary Karen Albano of Tracy; granddaughters, Jan Wohl of Stockton and Sanna Duchene, and her husband, Ron, of Bakersfield; a great-grandchild, Molly Duchene of Bakersfield; a sister, Dorothy Kiser of Huron, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Alice Wipf of Chico; and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jerry Wasmer; a brother, W.W. Wipf; and a sister, Edna Shipman. Friday’s graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. at Tracy Cemetery. Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave, is handling arrangements. Contributions in Mrs. Wasmer’s name can be made to Sutter VNA Hospice, 4600 S.
