Wright Sr., 101, of Lodi, died Oct. 8 in a local convalescent hospital. He was born May 22, 1904, in Ironwood, Mich. Mr. Wright went to work for a drayage company at the age of 14. In 1932, he coached and trained in football under the supervision of Knute Rockne. Later, he attended Wisconsin State Universities at Stout and Superior Wisconsin. He continued his education at Indiana State University, Northern Illinois University, the University of Illinois and Elgin Community College. He married Bess Ingersol in 1927 in Richmond, Ind., where he was teaching. He and his wife returned to Elgin, Ill., a few years later, where he taught industrial arts and coached in the school system for 43 years until his retirement in 1968. Melville Wright Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed music, reading, spending time with his family and corresponding with them. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 75 years. He is survived by his daughters, Jean Voss, of Sacramento and Eleanor Biggs, of Livingston, Texas; son, Tom Wright, of Lodi; 19 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bess Wright in 1978; sisters, Ethel Colenso, Leola Murphy and Gladys Johnston; and brothers, Kenneth Wright, Frank Colenso and Homer Wright. A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lodi Funeral Home. Committal will be private. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219-3993; or to Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital Activity Fund, 950 S.
