Minard "Soapy" Wanner

  Minard "Soapy" Wanner, 79, succumbed to illness on July 7, 2005. Soapy was 
born to John and Caroline Wanner of Elk Grove, CA in 1925. He lived in Lodi for 
59 years. He was a Lodi High School graduate of the class of 1944. He joined 
the US Army in 1943 and served in the European Theater during WWII and was 
honorably discharged in 1946. He retired after 48 years of working for Stokely 
Cannery and Pacific Coast Producers. He then retired in Coos Bay, Oregon in 
1990. 
  Soapy was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and joined the 
Lodi Aerie 848 in 1943. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and gardener. He 
enjoyed canning, wine-making and sharing his wares with family and friends. He 
loved animals and was a wonderful man who touched everyone he knew. 
  He is survived by his second wife, Deirdre; sister, Viola; son, Ron Wanner 
and wife Kathy of Lodi; daughter, Sandy Cunnington and husband Chet of Coos 
Bay, Oregon; grandson, Dan Wanner of S.C., Chester Cunnington of Oregon; 
granddaughter, Deanna Holden of Lodi; great Grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla; 
Deidere's children, Kelly Ashcroft of Stockton, Sheri Johnston of Utah, George 
Ashcroft of Texas, Blane Ashcroft of Alaska; and eleven more grandchildren. 
  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Viola. 
  A bedside service for immediate family was held at Sacred Heart Hospital in 
Eugene, Oregon. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
