Wheeler, 85, of Citrus Heights and formerly of Lodi, died March 10 in Citrus Heights after a long illness. He was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Reserve, N.M. Mr. Wheeler attended schools in Lodi and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He became an accountant and worked for the State of California, then joined his uncle's business, Mayco, in Lodi. He and his family moved to Pine Grove in 1972. He later worked for Pargas Co. until his retirement in 1981. He moved to Citrus Heights in 2003. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Pioneer. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other organizations. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; children, Cherylene Jaramillo, of Carmichael, and Kent Wheeler, of Douglas, Wyo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Wheeler. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, 22601 Highway 88, Pioneer. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice of Sacramento, or Faith Lutheran Church. McCrory's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
