She was born Jeannette Ticknor on Feb. 18, 1923, in Dallas, S.D., where she was raised and graduated from Burke High School in 1941. Mrs. Whiting attended St. Vincent College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, where she was one of the top five in her class and graduated in 1944 with a bachelor of science degree. She was then employed as a registered nurse in Army hospitals. She married Kenneth R. Whiting in 1944 in Kansas City, Mo. Later, she and her husband moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked as a registered nurse at Denver General Hospital. She and her family moved to Lodi in 1959, where she worked as a surgical nurse at Lodi Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed music, and played the coronet in her younger years. Jeannette Whiting She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Whiting, of Lodi; sons, Steve Whiting and Mike Whiting, both of Lodi; daughters, Cassandra Christopherson and Michelle Whiting, both of Lodi; brothers, Glenn "Bud" Ticknor, of Sacramento, Dean Ticknor, of Vermillion, S.D., Larry Ticknor, of Bonesteel, S.D.; sisters, Leota Allison, of Winner, S.D., Betty Williams, of Woodbridge, Edith Mae "Peg" Wittmus, of Fort Lupton, Colo., and JoAnn Carvalho, of Sacramento; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, LeRoy Ticknor, Robert Ticknor, and Elmer Ticknor, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Whitley. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99 and Harney Lane, Lodi. A private committal will follow in the Garden of Trees at Cherokee Memorial Park with the Rev. David Hill of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lodi officiating.
