He was born June 25, 1931 in Orlene, NE. A carpenter for 45 years, Mr. Winchell was the founder of G.M. Winchell & Sons Construction. He was active in the Bluegrass Association and owned, bred and trained race horses that ran in the local circuits. He was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and Central Church of Christ. He was the devoted son of the late George Melvin & Opal Winchell, the beloved husband of 47 years to Melvia Winchell of Stockton, the loving father of Janice Marion Evans (& Brad) of Valley Springs, James Andrew Winchell (& Kathleen) of Stockton and George Melvin Winchell III (& Kathleen Ann) of Tracy; dear brother of Walter Winchell of Visalia, Darrell Winchell of Stockton, the late Donna Key and the late James Winchell and the devoted grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend funeral services, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in the Central Church of Christ, 4368 N. Sutter St., Stockton. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, in the Wallace-Martin Funeral Home, 520 N. Sutter St., Stockton, CA. Committal: Cherokee Memorial Park.
