Just a note to add some interest on the two CW Gravestones located in the Old Mission Catholic Cemetery in the City of San Louis Obispo, CA. As you know I am researching the men of Capt. Antonio Maria De la Guerra, Captain of "Company C., 1st Battalion, Native California Cavalry. The two men attached were from Company C., and after the War lived and worked in SLO area. They were life long friends and never married as far as we know. As you can see Jose V. Olivas was buried in 1914 before his best friend Jose Antonio Romero died in 1923. So Jose Antonio's father Juan had him buried in his family plot. Nice story. I am back on the hunt for more lost Vets. Wish me luck. More later. Alex. I would like to add to the notes on the TWO CW gravestones. Jose A. Romero and Jose V. Olivas. The two stones were replaced in the year 2000 by "Edson T. Strobridge" a local SLO Historian. Mr. Strobridge is responsible for the replacement of over 100 US Army issue Civil War Gravestones in California. He is also responsible for the Re-dedication of the lost Cieneguitas Catholic Cemetery located in Santa Barbara, CA. He replaced 21 headstones in Nov 2002 with the approval and participation of the Los Angeles Catholic Diocese. Just to set the record to give him the credit for a lifelong project.
