MINETTI RECEIVES FATAL BURNS (From Saturday’s Dally) Mrs. Thomas Minetti of 1212 Marsh street received fatal burns shortly after 12:30 o’clock this morning when a gas heater exploded in the kitchen of her home. Mrs. Minetti was taken to the San Luis Sanitarium and given medical treatment, but at 1:10 this morning Dr. H. A. Gallup stated that there was practically no hope for her recovery. Just how the accident occurred remains a mystery. Mrs. Minetti was sleeping in one room of the house with her four year old son, while Mr. Minetti and the baby were sleeping in another room. Mr. Minetti was awakened by the explosion, but is unable to tell how it occurred or for what reason Mrs. Minetti attempted to light the heater. It is supposed that Mrs. Minetti may have gone into the kitchen for some purpose and have lighted a match, and that gas from the heater which had filled the closed room exploded. Neighbors who were awakened by the explosion and the screams of Mrs. Minetti saw her running from the house with her nightgown in flumes. J. G. Canu and other neighbors smothered the flames with blankets and Mrs. Minetti was taken to the hospital, where it was found that practically all the skin on her body had been burned and that she could not live. The explosion was heard for three blocks, and its force was sufficient to shake houses a block and a half away. The plaster was shaken from some of the walls of the Minetti home. Mr. and Mrs. Minetti came to this city from Cayucos, where the relatives of both reside. Mrs. Thomas Minetti, who was badly burned early yesterday morning by a gas explosion at her home, 1212 March street, passed away about 4:30 o'clock the same morning. At an inquest held yesterday a coroner’s Jury gave a verdict that Mrs. Minetti had come to her death as the result of an accidental explosion of a gas stove. The exact details of the accident could not be learned, as no one in the Minetti household was awake at the time of the accident besides Mrs. Minetti. At the inquest it was related that Mr. and Mrs. Minetti returned to their home about 9 o’clock Friday evening, after visiting Mrs. Minetti's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Tartaglia, of Cayucos. Mrs. Minetti and her three-year-old son went to bed in one room, while Mr. Minetti and the baby occupied the adjoining room. During the night Mrs. Minetti got up and for some reason went to the kitchen and struck a match. The room was filled with gas from the stove or healer, and the explosion was instantaneous. She ran from the house, a living torch, and neighbors smothered her flaming nightclothes with blankets. She was taken to the San Luis Sanitarium, but it was found that practically all the skin on her body had been burned and there was no hope of recovery. She passed away a few hours later. The inquest was conducted by Acting Coroner Wm. Mallagh. Mrs. Minetti is survived by her husband and two small children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Tartaglia, of Cayucos; three sisters, Mrs. E. A Bassi of Patterson, Mrs. John Swain of Long Beach and Miss Edith Tartaglta of San Luis Obispo, and the following brothers: G. G. Tartaglia, Americo Tartaglia. Peter Tartaglia and Dario Tartaglia, ail of Cayucos. Funeral announcement will be made upon receipt of word from relatives.
