P. Andrews was a very prominent resident of San Luis Obispo. In 1883, after his hotel was destroyed by fire, Andrews decided to rebuild the hotel at another location, plus a bank at the corner of Monterey Street and Osos Street. The Andrews Bank Building served the people of San Luis Obispo for many years. The two-story structure is now being used as a realty office on the first floor and as an architect's office on the second floor. The Andrews Bank Building is constructed of brick with granite and terra cotta ornaments. Every modern device was employed in the construction to make it perfectly safe and sound. The building was designed for banking and proved to be very functional. A large fireproof vault was designed with a massive iron door leading from the bank offices to the safe, equipped with a time lock and combination. There is a basement constructed below which contained a steam boiler used to heat the bank as well as the hotel. The president's office was elegantly furnished and lighted by electricity.
