Dallidet arrived in 1853 and planted a vineyard, a beautiful garden, and soon married the daughter of Gabriel Salazar. He then built an adobe house on San Luis Creek and raised a family of four sons and three daughters. It is believed that he built an adobe because his wife had lived in an adobe since birth. The youngest son, Paul Dallidet, lived in the house until his death in 1958, and deeded the property to the San Luis Obispo Historical Society in 1953, one hundred years after his father arrived here. The house was all adobe when it was first built, but some years later, the wooden section was added on by Mr. Dallidet because of his fast expanding family. The adobe has walls that are almost two feet thick and a loft above for sleeping. This loft was reached by a staircase near the front door. This has since been removed. The wooden section is reached by a narrow stairway which goes down to a lower level. Here, Dallidet added three badly needed bedrooms, a dining room, and a kitchen. The fireplace and chimney in this section were made of brick, rather than adobe, as in the adobe section. The adobe is now State Historical Landmark No. 720.
