G. DANA RESIDENCE Nipomo History and Description: The house known as the Joseph A. G. Dana residence was built by an early developer named U. S. Runels. He came from Riverside as a realtor before the turn of the 19th Century. The house was built in 1887 along with an East-lake-style barn. Several years after it was built, the house was purchased by Joseph Dana and was used as a boarding house. The Dana Family had settled the area around Nipomo in 1834 under a Mexican Land Grant. The wood frame Victorian house still remains and is presently located one block from the corner of Dana Street and Thompson Avenue near the center of Nipomo. The house has a ground floor, second floor, and attic. The ground floor contains four large rooms and an entrance hall, the second floor contains five large rooms. The house measures thirty-two by forty-eight feet and was originally built at a cost of $6,000.00. The original contractors of the structure were A. I. and C. A. Todd. The house remained in the Dana family until several years ago when Mrs. Dana passed away. The house has since been sold to two men from Southern California and is presently retained as an antique store.
