It was built approximately in 1903 for Edward Stanton, an early-day officer of the Pacific Coast Railway, famous narrow-gauge line. Stanton's wife was Irene Josephine Dana, one of the eight children of Charles William Dana, long-time county clerk. Later, in 1934, the Lewin family lived at this address for many years, followed by the Manderscheids. In 1962, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Korsmeyer bought the property and have been trying to restore it. On June 9, 1967, it was open to the County Historical Society for that afternoon. The house, two stories plus attic and basement, is of Victorian style. The roof is made of slate. The entire house is built with redwood and cedar. The interior stairway, floor, doors and all woodwork are made of pine. Walls and ceiling, 10 feet high and coved, are covered with lath and plaster finish. Some of the windows are stained glass. The house is still piped for the original gas lighting. There is no heating system but plumbing and electrical systems are still in good shape. This is one of the only houses left in San Luis Obispo with curved glass in some windows. The house is provided with two fireplaces, one in the living room and one in the dining room. There are the original 1903 electrical switches on the walls.
