Mr. and Mrs. Spooner first settled in the area in 1892. Parts of the house now standing were constructed in 1905. The house once was part of a cluster of farm buildings, as the Spooner family grew beans and barley, raised cattle and dairy cows, and produced milk and butter. A landing was also built in Spooner's Cove. All that remains now is a hole through the cliff, a wooden ladder, and some foundation holes cut in the rocks of the tidepools. The products of the Pecho Ranch were shipped up and down the California coast. The lumber used to build the house was brought by steamer from San Francisco and landed at the cove. The house is of wood frame construction with vertical boards and batten siding. The house sits on a low foundation wall of random local stone. All of the structural members are full sized (i.e., a two by four actually measures two by four inches, etc.). Some of the interior walls and ceilings are covered with tongue and groove planks. The building is painted white with green trim, and has a roof of green composition shingles, the original shingle coverings having been wood.
