It is well-disguised however, and few people recognize its origin. Mr. Clyde Winn of 1969 Chorro, the present owner, bought the coach by bid in 1953 from the Southern Pacific Railroad. The fifty-foot-long car was moved three blocks from the railroad tracks to its present site by heavy house-moving equipment. Mr. Winn then removed the car's wheels and put the car on a concrete foundation. He cut holes in the metal siding for doors and added partitions, plumbing, and electrical equipment inside. The windows are original and unchanged. The roof was modified to a peak and topped with gray asphalt shingles. Directly over the metal side, Mr Winn applied a one-inch layer of stucco with a coat of light green paint. The final touches included a concrete porch and sidewalks, with incidentals such as landscaping and mailboxes completing the job. The first tenants in 1953 were Lee and Shirley Bullard, with Mr. and Mrs. Waddell living in the other side. Both couples were Cal Poly students and stayed for about four years. In the last seventeen years it has been rented out predominantly to married students but as Mrs. Winn put it; "We discouraged couples with children because there just isn't enough room." Mrs. Winn discusses the possibilities of adding a two-bedroom wing to the center of the car. The most unique item in the duplex is an old tarnished bronze plaque on the back wall of the bathroom. It reads: "The Pullman Railroad Company, 1898". Source: Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Winn, 1969 Chorro, San Luis Obispo Additional Comments: Extracted from Discovering San Luis Obispo County by Carleton M.
