F. Warden's grandmother about 1925 by the engineering firm of Burch & Beck. This was to provide access to the rear of the Warden building and other buildings on the block which front Higuera Steet between Chorro and Broad Streets. Access had previously been an alley way from Higuera Street, but expansion of existing buildings in the early twenties blocked this alley and eliminated any auto or truck access to the rear of the buildings, which led to the construction of the bridge. The bridge remains private property and still provides driveway access to the rear of the buildings on the Warden block and for some pedestrian traffic to the Mission Mall area. It can be reached from Monterey Street where the Mission Plaza blocks Monterey Street south of Chorro Street. The bridge is of reinforced concrete and steel construction with a clear span of about 28 feet between abutments and provides 10 feet of clear drive width. The deck supports are steel 'I' members while the deck, railings, posts, and abutments are of reinforced concrete. Early square reinforcing steel was used throughout and can be seen in a section of broken guard rail. The bridge clears San Luis Obispo Creek by approximately 20 feet and presents a good view of the creek to the south. The bridge approaches are well maintained while the bridge itself has a used but venerable look. Sources: City of San Luis Obispo Engineering Department Mr. A. F. Warden, owner Mr. J.
