This lot is located at the foot of Islay Hill. The house is approximately one-half mile from Orcutt Road and is hidden from the road by low rolling hills. There is a dirt road leading to the house from Orcutt Road. In the rainy winter of 1969 the road was flooded by a small creek, making it impossible to reach the house. Mr. Rodriguez built the house in 1858. The plan is basically a rectangle, 60 feet long by 23 feet wide. The kitchen is an addition with access to the rear porch and dining room next to the living room. The living room was probably used as a sitting room, exclusively for special occasions. The bedrooms are entered by way of the exterior doors on the front porch. The size of the master bedroom is still unexplained. The exterior walls are 1 foot 10 inches thick with all door and window openings exactly 2 feet 10 inches wide. Wood tongue-and-groove siding has been applied to the north and south walls, presumably to cover up the deteriorated adobe. The interior walls measure 1 foot thick. The house is in poor shape today and is being used by students who rent from the 12 owners. The house has been added onto, which the plan does not show. The rear porch has been enclosed with board and batten siding. This has been further partitioned into a third bedroom. The bath has been added after hot and cold water were introduced to the interior of the house. The dining room and the sitting room have been converted into bedrooms. A tack room has been added and is now being converted into a bedroom. The inside of the adobe is in excellent condition, however it is the old uncared-for wood siding that detracts from the true beauty of the adobe.
