It was a flour mill with a grind stone powered by the San Luis Creek, behind the building. The building was still occupied by the Sperry Company in 1904. Some years later the building changed owners and has since been occupied by several car dealers and garages. Behind the building was the century-old Garcia adobe and the Sinsheimer House, which is now the lot of San Luis Obispo Savings and Loan. The old building now has stucco over much of the brick. It has been greatly altered to allow for the new owners. Side windows have been covered and new larger display windows were cut into the front of the building.
