J. Clarke (1928) F. H. THRALL One of the leading commercial enterprises of Burlingame is the electric store of F. H. Thrall, at 1401 Broadway, where he commands a large and steadily increasing trade. He has had long and practical experience in the handling of electric lighting fixtures and is qualified as an expert in that line of business. Mr. Thrall was born at Sycamore, De Kalb county, Illinois, on the 4th of December, 1875, and when seven years old was brought to California by his parents, who located in Saratoga, Santa Clara county. He secured his early education in the public schools of that place, graduating later from the Valencia grammar school, now the Horace Mann school, in San Francisco. When thirteen years of age he went to work for the Whittier-Fuller Paint Company, and later became clerk in a department store. However, that line of work did not suit him and he entered the employ of the Thomas Day Company, dealers in electric lighting fixtures in San Francisco, with which concern he remained for twenty-one years. Later, for about nine years, he was with the Roberts Manufacturing Company, since which time he has been engaged in business on his own account in Burlingame. A man of keen commercial sense, courteous and accommodating in his relations to the trade, he has won a large patronage, his sound business methods and square dealing gaining for him the confidence of all who have dealt with him. Mr. Thrall was united in marriage to Miss Hazel Metalf, who is a native of San Jose, this state, and they are the parents of three children, Frank M., Marcella and Janet. Mr. Thrall is a member of Mission Lodge, No. 169, A. F. & A. M., of which he is a past master; is a past eminent commander of San Francisco Commandery, K. T.; and is a past worthy patron of Mission Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He has long been particularly interested in Boy Scout work, to which he has devoted considerable time for the past thirteen years, being at the present county commissioner of Boy Scouts for San Mateo county. For twelve years he was a member of the school board of Burlingame and is now a trustee of the San Mateo union high school district and Junior college district of this city. He is also a member of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce and the Broadway Development Association, and has shown a healthy interest in everything tending to elevate the moral and civic life of the community and is regarded as exemplifying in his own life the essential qualities of good citizenship. For these reasons he commands the sincere respect and confidence of his fellow men and has many warm and loyal friends. Mr. Thrall has built and occupies a fine story and a half residence at 124 Park road. Additional Comments: Extracted from: HISTORY OF SAN MATEO COUNTY CALIFORNIA VOLUME II ILLUSTRATED CHICAGO, ILL.
