Morgan Hill Sun Times December 25, 1903
   Early Tuesday morning word reached town that a dead body had been found in
the hills east of town.  Soon Geo. Stevens came in and word was sent to the
Coroner, who arrived about noon and proceeded to the place where the body was
found, where the inquest was held.  These facts were gathered by the jury and
embodied in their verdict.  The deceased was known as Guitano about 60 years of
age, a native if Italy, residing at the Europa Hotel, San Jose.  That he came to
his death on the Good rich hills, 5 miles east of Morgan Hill about the 15 of
December, from a gunshot wound in the throat, by means unknown to the jury.  The
verdict was rendered by the jury on the 22nd of December.  The following persons
constituted the jury:  W. H. Fread, Harry Brizee, Chas. A. Smith, J. E.
Buchheister, L. Cunningham, T. W. Miller, B. Machado, C. E. Meginness, C. A.
Hatch and N. Ballard.
   These facts have also been gathered.  The deceased was a wood-chopper
employed by C H. Barrett on the Dunne Ranch.  He left the Cabin in the woods,
which he occupied with two other Italians on Saturday, December 12th, and had
not been seen there since.  The body was found on Monday evening by John Louske,
who has charge of the Shaffer place, being attracted to it by the barking of his
dog.  He was not sure of the man’s being dead until Tuesday morning and then
Geo. Stevens accompanied him to the place.
   There were no indications of any struggle.  A revolver was clasped in his
hand which it is supposed he had fired the fatal shot.
