Acton, Orchardist of Morgan Hill Funeral services were held Wednesday for John Alan Acton, 53, a retired Morgan Hill Orchardist, who died Sunday of a brain hemorrhage at a San Jose Hospital. His family said he had been in good health until quite recently. Mr. Acton, a native of Morgan Hill, was the son and grandson of south Santa Clara Valley farmers. His grandfather, John Acton, immigrated to the US from England, settling in Morgan Hill in 1910 to farm and become an orchardist specializing in raising prunes. The original Acton farmhouse in Morgan Hill, where John Alan lived for a time, is now a museum. John Alan’s father, J. Edward Acton, served on the Morgan Hill City Council from 1944-1948. John Acton farmed until 1973 when he and his wife, Virginia Pravettoni Acton, retired two Weaverville in northern California to run a motel they had bought. Parental ill health forced the couple to return to Morgan Hill to live four years ago. Mr. Acton’s father, John Edward, died in December. Before moving to Weaverville, Mr. Acton had been active in Ducks Unlimited, the Morgan Hill Ducks Club and the Elks Lodge. Besides his wife, survivors include his mother, Margaret Acton of Morgan Hill, and a brother, Dr. Edward M. Acton of Texas. Mr. Acton is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. Additional Comments: John Alan Acton was the son of John Edward Acton and Margaret McIntosh, grandson of John & Charlotte Kimbel Acton and John Donald & Margaret Chisholm McIntosh (of Ontario, Canada), and great-grandson of George and Mary Kimble.
