Allen Dies; Retired Agnew Postmaster" Los Gatos - Funeral services will be held Thursday for Leon L. Allen, retired postmaster of Agnew, who died in San Jose Monday of a stroke. He was 94. Allen was a native of New York and fought in both the Spanish American War and World War I. He once rode with Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Allen, before his appointment as Agnew postmaster post by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939, worked as chief cook at Agnews State Hospital. In his earlier years he was a barber in Sacramento and regularly clipped then California Gov. James Rolph's hair. He was a member of The American Legion Memory Post No. 399, Veterans of World War I Barracks 170 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Allen resided in Los Gatos at 206 Thomas Drive and is survived by his son, Sam Simmons of Los Gatos. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lima Family-Erickson Memorial Chapel.
