 The Dispatch, Gilroy, California, April 6, 1918

Died of Pneumonia

   Edwin James Beckwith, who was raised in Gilroy, died at the Railroad
Hospital, San Francisco March 30, after a short illness of pneumonia.  He had
been working as a brakeman on the S.P. line out of San Luis Obispo when taken
ill.  The remains were brought to Gilroy for interment and the funeral took
place Tuesday afternoon from Reimers undertaking parlors.  A large number of old
friends of the family attended the service, which were conducted by Rev. Elbert
Holland.  There were many beautiful floral offerings.  At the grave, the
ceremony of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen was read by officers of that
order and pall bearers were also of the same order.
   The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Beckwith and his youth was
passed in Gilroy.  His brothers and sisters are:  Eugene, George, Mrs. Lula
Chantler, Mrs. Chris Patterson, and Miss Ethel Beckwith.  The mother has been
living with him in San Luis Obispo.  The family have the sympathy of the
community in their sorrow.
