Blaine, the youngest of six children, was born on Jan. 5, 1910, in Armona, Kings County. Her family moved to Campbell in the early 1920s, where she graduated from Campbell High School in 1928. Blaine graduated from San Jose Teacher's College (now San Jose State University) in 1932 and earned her teaching credential the following year. Blaine began her teaching career in Monterey in 1935, and during this time met and married Allan Lane Clark, an assistant manager of a Salinas firm. After his untimely death in 1936, Blaine was left alone and expecting her first child. After the birth of her son Allan, she returned to the family home in Campbell where her mother provided child-care and she continued her teaching career. Blaine eventually transferred to Moorpark Elementary School in the Campbell district, and retired from teaching in 1972. Living next door in Campbell was John Franklin Blaine, brother of her high school classmate and friend Miriam Blaine. John and Eulah rekindled their friendship and married in 1941. John passed away in January at the age of 94. After retiring from her teaching career, Blaine took up poetry, which proved to be very rewarding. Her poems ranged from inspirational to whimsical and she won many prizes and awards, and several of her poems were published. Her daughter-in-law, Sigrid Blaine, compiled an anthology of her poems, that was presented to her family members and many friends at a "poetry party" in October 1999. Blaine was honored recently as the oldest living member of the Campbell First United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1932. She sang in the church choir and was active in many other church activities throughout the years. She was a member and past president of the Zeta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honor society for women in education. Other affiliations include the Robert Frost Chapter of the Chaparral Poets of California, California Teachers Association and the California Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Campbell Historical Museum and Ainsley House, and served as a docent for several years. Blaine is survived by her sons Allan Clark Blaine and his wife Beverlee, Richard Carroll Blaine and wife Sigrid, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held Sept. 30, at the First United Methodist Church of Campbell. Memorial donations may be made to the church, Kaiser Hospice or a charity of choice.
