Brydon died Aug. 3. He was 82. Brydon was instrumental in creating West Valley and Mission junior colleges. In 1951, he was asked by the supervisor of schools of Santa Clara County to head the Citizens Advisory Committee. With the committee, Brydon designed and campaigned for the junior college campuses. In 1963, he became the vice chairman of the founding board of trustees for the West Valley Junior College District. The board hired West Valley's first president, Wallace Hall, and located the district's first college in Saratoga. Because of his involvement in the Citizens Advisory Committee, Brydon knew all there was to know about the building of West Valley and of the plans for Mission College--and why the buildings were built as they were. "He touched the lives of thousands of people with his visions," said his wife, Joy Brydon. "He always weighed things with the students in mind." Brydon was also a director of Sunsweet Growers Inc., president of the board of trustees for Moreland Elementary School District--the oldest school district in the county, and a member of the Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization. He studied business at San Jose State College. In 1953, Brydon founded a 48-bed hospital in Campbell and served as the director for the first year. Although the hospital no longer exists, the hospital served many patients, including Brydon, who had a heart attack shortly after the hospital was founded. Brydon was born on Jan. 13, 1918, in Campbell and lived there until moving to Port Townsend, Wash., with his wife in 1991. In Campbell, Bob and Joy Brydon lived on an old ranch on West Latimer Ave. Brydon watched the valley change from the "Valley of the Heart's Delight"--filled with fruit orchards--to the Silicon Valley of today. Brydon is survived by his wife, Joy; his sons Steven and John from his first marriage; and Joy's children, Janus Elaine Carey and Richard Musante. Between them, Joy and Bob have 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 8, at the Campus Center at West Valley College. Additional Comments: Note: I am not related to this individual and have no additional information.
