Buchheister The community was saddened by the death of A. E. Buchheister, who passed peacefully away on Wednesday, Feb. 16th, at 8:20 P. M., at his home in Morgan Hill after an illness of nearly three months. During this period he made a heroic fight for life, always cheerful and full of hope. But the last few days complications set in that medical science could not overcome. "Art" – as he was generally known in the community by his hearty laugh and jovial disposition – will be greatly missed by his many friends, as he was a favorite with both young and old. He was always ready and willing to promote the welfare of the community, and was ever ready to bear his share of the burden and lend a helping hand no matter how great the responsibility or difficult the task. He was born in Iowa, March 20, 1877. Moving with his parents to Morgan Hill from Nebraska in 1895, he settled on a ranch east of town (now owned by E. J. Dubois). During this time he was a prime mover in the establishing of Rural Route No. 24, and was appointed carrier of same. This position he held for two years. At the end of this time he was employed in the Mercantile Establishment of C. B. Mason, and afterwards started in business for himself. Afterwards he became interested in public affairs, having been appointed road master under Supervisor Arthur Hecker. In April 1920 he was elected a member of the Town Board of Trustees. He served in this capacity up to the time of his illness. He was an active member of the local Fire Department, also a member of F and A. M., I.O.O.F., Rebekahs, B.P.O.E. and M.W. A. Arthur E. Buchheister was married March 8, 1905 to Zula M. Mason, who survives him. He is also survived by his father, Chas. F. Buchheister, his brothers, John E. and William H., Buchheister, his sister, Mrs. Ada Robinson, and his uncle, Chris Buchheister. Morgan Hill Times February 25, 1921 Funeral Services for Arthur E. Buchheister The funeral services for Arthur E. Buchheister were very largely attended at the undertaking parlors of Hocking & Williams last Saturday, testifying to the esteem in which he was held. The rooms were large enough to contain only a part of those present, many remaining outside. The services were conducted by the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, of which the deceased was a member. Amos O. Williams sang two songs very beautifully. The body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery, where that of his mother and other members of the family have rested from some years. The Elks Lodge conducted serves here also. The pall bearers were V. M. Edes, C. O. Edes, Warren Spry, Lloyd Skeels, George Parmenter and Gerald Hecker.
