Her maiden name was Marshall. She was a native of Ohio, born in Wayne county, where the first 8 years of her life were spent. The home was afterwards in Richland county, near Mansfield where she grew to womanhood and in 1851, was united in marriage with William Bussing of Mansfield. In 1855 they removed to Iowa, settling first in Washington county removing later to Marion county near Knoxville and later the home was established in Knoxville. Five children were born to them, four boys and one girl, two of them dying in infancy. Her husband died April 8, 1875 and her oldest son, April 8, 1882 and two sons, F. B. and C. M. are still living, F. B. in Morgan Hill and C. M. in San Jose. With these two sons and their families she came to California in 1896 and established her home in Morgan Hill. Mrs. Bussing was a woman of rare worth, quiet and retiring, yet strong in her convictions of right and duty and faithful in living up to very high and pure ideals. She was a sincere Christian woman, having made a public profession of her faith in Christ at sixteen. She exemplified that faith through sixty years of faithful living. Sometimes she passed through the deep waters and under the dark shadows, but the promises of Him in whom she believed were verified in her experience. The testimony of her consistant [sic] life cannot be questioned. She endeared herself to all with whom she became acquainted, as one worthy to be imitated. The United Presbyterian congregation of which she was a member has suffered a great loss, her example of faithfulness and trust being most precious. They sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved family. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. E. Gordon, in the U. P. church and were attended by a large congregation of friends who came to show their regard for the departed and their sympathy with the bereaved family. The remains were then laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery. One whose life was singularly pure, gentle and noble has gone out from us, and the power of her example still lives with us. Additional Comments: Per the 1860 US Census, Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa, William and Margaret had son William Joseph, born about 1854, and daughter, Mary A., age 10/12 months, both born in Iowa.
